WARSAW — On Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Warsaw Police Department officers were alerted a black Ford F350 was driving towards Warsaw on State Road 15 from Silver Lake. It was reported the 65-year-old driver, identified as Myron Jay Tomlinson, Sr., was making suicidal statements. His driver’s license and vehicle registration indicate Tomlinson is from the State of Arizona. Central Dispatch informed WPD officers they had information linking Tomlinson with a recent “standoff” with Wabash County Sheriff’s Department.
The vehicle was located driving on North Detroit Street. At Anchorage Road and North Detroit Street, a WPD officer initiated his lights and sirens. Tomlinson refused to stop and continued traveling northbound. Tomlinson communicated with Central Dispatch while being pursued advising officers might as well give up because he would not be taken alive. Tomlinson stopped his vehicle in the area of 350 North, where officers initiated a high-risk traffic stop.
Tomlinson refused to comply with orders from officers to turn his vehicle off. He responded, saying he wasn’t shutting it off and that he wanted to die. Upon exiting the vehicle, Tomlinson pointed at a WPD officer and suggested the officer shoot him. Tomlinson failed to comply with any orders given by officers. A WPD officer deployed his police issued Taser which allowed officers to safely take Tomlinson into custody. Medics were immediately called to the scene and transported Tomlinson to Kosciusko County Hospital where he received medical treatment and evaluation. Criminal charges are pending.
