A Warsaw man is being held on preliminary charges of felony aggravated battery with a deadly weapon following a shooting during a domestic dispute.

Around, 7:45 p.m. Saturday, police responded to the 1100 block of North Detroit Street, in Warsaw, for a 911 call of a woman who had been shot. Warsaw Police and Kosciusko County officers arrived to find a 29-year-old female shot in the neck.

Responding officers were initially told the shooting was self-inflicted and accidental, but after further investigation and questioning, it was determined 37-year-old, Brandon Bellamy, shot the female victim.

The investigation showed Bellamy was intoxicated and both parties had been arguing for quite some time. Bellamy indicated he was going to drive away and grabbed his jacket. Bellamy also grabbed a 40mm handgun. When the female attempted to stop him from leaving, Bellamy raised the gun and fired a shot.

Brandon J. Bellamy was booked on a preliminary charge of felony aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and is being held in the Kosciusko County Jail with no bond on a prosecutorial hold. Further investigation into Brandon Bellamy’s criminal background produced an additional felony charge of possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon. Formal charges will be filed at the beginning of the week through the Kosciusko County Prosecuting Attorney’s office.

As of late Saturday evening, the female was in surgery at a Fort Wayne hospital, but is expected to survive.

Warsaw Police were assisted by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s office, Winona Lake Police Department, Kosciusko Major Crimes unit, Kosciusko County Prosecuting Attorney’s office, and Lutheran EMS Kosciusko.
